MIME students participated in Environmental Awareness Clean-Up Drive with Eco- Watch and Indian Railways

Swachh Bharat Abhiyan started by the Government of India on 2 October 2014 to sensitize people about maintaining cleanliness not only at their residence but in the surroundings as well. The specific objective of the initiative is to eradicate open defecation by 2 October 2019, the 150th anniversary of the birth of Mahatma Gandhi.

MATS Institute of Management and Entrepreneurship (MIME) has been conducting various activities through its CSR Club to contribute to this wonderful initiative for cleanliness. In this series, the Clean-up Drive and Eco-Awareness campaign was organized at Krantivira Sangolli Rayanna railway station, Majestic, Bengaluru, in association with Eco-Watch and Indian Railways on January 31, 2018. The main objective of the campaign was to create awareness among the general passengers, railway employees and other stake holders of the railway station about waste management/ garbage disposal, maintaining cleanliness and hygiene.

The students along with the staff of railway department took out a procession all across the railway station, including the platforms and surrounding areas outside the station to create awareness on eco system by chanting slogans such as “Clean India Our India”, “Go Green Get Clean”, and “Nama Bharata Swachh Bharata”. After the procession, students actively participated in cleaning the platform, tracks inside the railway station and cleanliness outside the railway station.

Dr. Jitendra Kumar Mishra, Director - MIME, Dr. S Manikandan & Mrs. Anuradha - MIME CSR Club Coordinators, Mr. Akshay Heblikar - Director, Eco-watch, Mr. Ullaas Kumar and Mr. Sujeet Kumar - Team Coordinators of Eco-Watch, Mr. Santosh Hedge - Director, South Western Railway, Mr. Syed Intiaz Ahamed - Divisional Environment and Housekeeping Manager of Southern Western Railway and Railway officials joined the cleanliness drive. The campaign was covered by the Doordarshan, TV9 and Digvijay TV.
