One Day Workshop on Team Building, Leadership and Conflict Resolution

The organizations in the present day business world are characterized by rapid changes occurring in multiple dimensions and increasingly different interests emerging from associated stakeholders such as promoters, employees, governments and the society. Addressing these conflicting interests is very much essential if an organization has to survive and develop. In this scenario, the two pillars of “Organizational Development” viz., Team Building and Problem-Solving are becoming increasingly relevant in the globalized era. Keeping their importance in mind, MATS Institute of Management and Entrepreneurship (MIME) has organized a one day workshop on the focal theme
“Team Building, Leadership and Conflict Resolution”
on 21st November, 2016 for its students. The workshop was facilitated by Ms. M. Christa Heidinger, Head of Mediation HEIDINGER Institute, Graz, Austria.
In his initial remarks Dr. Jitendra Kumar Mishra, Director, MIME stressed the importance of understanding and practically getting a feel of Leadership and Conflict Resolution concepts by correlating with the developments in Tata and Reliance Groups. He further stressed the students to appreciate the widening diversities all around and consequent chances for conflicts at the workplace.
The workshop was divided into four sessions viz., essential theoretical inputs, group exercises, two case discussions and, question and answer session. The first session on essential theoretical concepts covered the basic definitions of team, leadership and conflict. These definitions were further internalized through group based activities and clarifications. The second session covered the group exercises that highlighted the linkages between (i) Leadership and Phases of Organization, and (ii) Leadership and Conflict Resolution methods.
The third session of the workshop pertained to the group discussions on two case studies and consequent sharing of knowledge. The two case studies pertained to both simple conflicts characterized by localized issues and complex conflicts pertaining to the issues covering wider part of stakeholders of an organization. The fourth session on question and answers drew insightful questions from the participative students and were appropriately answered by the facilitator.
The workshop was well received by the participating students who were appreciative of the contents, exposure and depth of learning on one hand, and approach and effectiveness of the facilitator on the other.
