Onam festival27 August 2015
MATS Institute of Management and Entrepreneurship (MIME) of Jain Group of Institutions, celebrated Onam on 27 August 2015 with great merriment and vigor. The celebration, which was entirely a student initiative; gave students an opportunity to participate and learn about the rich cultural and agrarian heritage of Kerala, bringing them together in a true display of cohesiveness, that one can only term as ‘Indian’.
The celebrations began with the solemn ceremony of lighting of the holy lamp by Dr. Jitendra Mishra, Director, MIME, along with other dignitaries. Dr. Mishra in his address conveyed best wishes and emphasized that these festivals are cultural cyphers indicating the significance of working together and attaining success. Subsequently, Dr. Nisha Shankar who addressed the gathering in Malayalam delivered the message of equality, prosperity and solidarity all of which signify the true spirit of the festival.
As part of the celebration, a massive floral rangoli called ‘Pookalam’ was laid and as a show of harmony, students adorned their ethnic attires. On the occasion everyone present relished the traditional Onam lunch, Sadhya, giving them a unique opportunity to transcend cultural differences bringing them together, through food and celebrations. This was followed by various recreational and team building games such as tug of war, lemon and spoon. All this added to the gaiety and fun and gave the students a platform to showcase their talents. The event was an unforgettable experience, one that the students would cherish forever.
