MATS Institute of Management and Entrepreneurship (MIME) organized a Workshop on ‘Design Thinking and System Thinking for Organizational Effectiveness’ on 23 September 2019 for the students of Semester III PGDM 2018-2020 batch to blend the conceptual knowledge of design thinking and system thinking into real organizational practices and how this applies in organizational effectiveness

The workshop was conducted by Mr. Subin Muraleedharan, Senior Consultant and Ms. Subha from OD Alternatives, Bangalore. Mr. Murleedharan is an electronic engineer and also an alumni of Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore. He is certified in design thinking from QGLUE. He is also engaged in conducting design thinking classes for the executive batches at Tata Institute of Social Sciences. Mr. Murleedharan is known for conducting workshops on applied system thinking at ISRO, McKinsey and Wells Fargo. His areas of expertise and experience range from Innovation of all kinds like product, process and business model to the process of design thinking and using innovation for developing prototypes. He has been a Guest Speaker on Innovation, systems thinking at various forums and management institutes.

In the workshop the students got an exposure on design thinking process and were asked them to create a prototype of men wallet and ladies purse by applying innovation. The student were given the idea of degree of systemization for structured productivity, quality and innovation. The workshop was focused on the importance and requirement of design thinking with what, why and who of design thinking in an organization; Many examples were given in the form of cases about the success stories of the organizations using design thinking like Netflix, IBM, Google, Apple etc. During workshop student discussed about various tools of design thinking among them the 9 window technique to check the feasibility of innovation in start-up involved young minds into the discussion.
