Deeksharambh 2021 – A Warm Welcome of the New Batch to the JAIN Family

	MIME College hosted Deeksharambh, an induction and orientation program.

JAIN (Deemed-to-be University), MATS Institute of Management and Entrepreneurship (MIME) hosted Deeksharambh, an induction and orientation program, to welcome the batch of PGDM 2021-23 from August 5 to August 14, 2021. The induction program intended to introduce the new students to the institution, campus, staff, classmates, and their respective PGDM programs. The orientation aimed at making them familiar with management as a field and industry requirements and expectations.

August 5, 2021 - Registration and Kitting-up

The first two days remained dedicated to the verification of documents and issuance of identity cards and library cards. Each student of the PGDM 2021-23 batch was given a student welcome kit, designed specifically for the induction and orientation program of 2021.

August 6, 2021: Inaugural Function

The function began with the prayers invoking the blessings of Goddess Saraswati – the goddess of learning and wisdom. The fervent prayer was accompanied by the symbolic lighting of the lamp. The dignitaries to light the lamp were Sri. Prashanth Upadhyay, Deputy Vice-President at Axis Bank, Sri. Prashanth Ranganath, Founder of Tingg Creations, and Dr. H. Muralidharan, Director at MIME. Dr. H. Muralidharan welcomed the gathering of dignitaries, students, parents/guardians, and faculty members. He thanked the support and guidance extended by the management team of JAIN Group headed by Dr. Chenraj Roychand. The guest of honor, Sri. Prashanth Ranganath and the chief guest, Sri. Prashant Upadhyay were kind enough to share their words of wisdom at the event. Professor Reji Meprathe conducted the proceedings of the inaugural session, and the session came to an end with a formal vote of thanks by Dr. Suman Pathak. The second half of the session on August 6 was an icebreaker, wherein all the students of the PGDM 2021-23 batch participated in various individual and group activities. These activities helped new students shed their inner hesitation and resort to free expressions. Professor K.M. Ravi Kumar and Professor Reji Meprathe moderated the session.

August 7, 2021 - Placement Services and Entrepreneurship and Industry

The session focused on familiarization with placement services, entrepreneurship orientation, and sensitization of students to the prevailing industry expectations. In addition to these three sessions, there was an exclusive interactive session with the alumni of MIME.

1. Overview of Placement Processes

Mr. Santosh Kumar G, Mr. Santosh R, and Ms. Anjana Abhishek from Student - Career Advisory and Placement Services (S-CAPS) conducted a session on the activities and efforts undertaken in arranging organizational data, summer internship programs, and final Placements for the students of PGDM. The presenters suggested that the students fine-tune their technical and managerial skills to match the ever-evolving industry standards. The presenters highlighted that the students must maintain regular interaction with the industry by taking up part-time assignments, which would help them increase their knowledge bank, employability, and personality development index.

2. Orientation Session on Entrepreneurship through Panel Discussions

Keeping in line with the cherished value of MIME and being responsive to the latest Governmental focus of promoting job creators, a session on entrepreneurship formed a part of the orientation program. Ms. Savitha Reddy, Founder, and CEO of Inlingua, Mr. Manas Ranjan Hota, Founder and CEO of DrinkPrime, and Mr. Hrithik Kaul, Co-founder of Wpify formed the eminent panel for the session. The panelists shared valuable insights into the phenomenon of entrepreneurship, challenges faced by them, and their plans. The session was based on an elaborate question and answer round, wherein many queries from the students were addressed by the panelists. Professor Prakash Nimbalkar, Head of Entrepreneurial Cell at MIME moderated the panel discussion.

3. Panel Discussion on Expectations of Industry from Young Budding Managers

The panel consisted of Mr. Kishore KVDN, Deputy Manager (HR) at Envision Financial Systems, Inc., Mr. Nandkishore Jha, Senior Vice-President at Rupeemitra, Ms. Ashwini Mrinal Bhagat, Director (HR) at Hudson’s Bay, and Professor Prakash Nimbalkar, Faculty at MIME. The panelists familiarized the students with the industry expectations. They highlighted the importance of initiative-taking, communication, analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills. Further, the panelists discussed how the COVID-19 situation would impact the industry and the job market. The panelists with their rich experience and diverse backgrounds educated the students on how they must vitalize their next two years to enhance their employability skills against the ever-changing expectations of the industry. The panel discussion was followed by a question and answer session, which provided a platform for the students to clarify their doubts and concerns.

4. Interaction with Alumni Members of MIME

The session was titled, My Story, My Words - The Alumni Speaks. A panel of eight alumni members of MIME included Ms. Ritu Mishra, Sales Executive at Network18 Media and Investments Limited, Ms. Ayushi Agrawal, Category Associate at Unacademy, Ms. Rashmi Ramesh, Senior Client Analyst at Oracle India, Mr. Mohammed Naveed Khan, Consultant at KPMG, Mr. Ashwini Singh, Sales Officer at Nestle India, Mr. Vijesh V Nair, Renewal Specialist at Think and Learn Private Limited, Mr. Varad Puranik, Key Account Executive at ITC Limited, and Mr. Mohammed Ozair Pasha, Tax Consultant at Deloitte India.

August 9 – August 14, 2021: General Orientation and Subject-Related Orientation

The remaining six days of the program were devoted to making the students get an overall idea about the various facets of their two-year PGDM programs. This segment of the program was divided into two categories; general orientation and subject-related orientation.

The general orientation included:
  • Introduction to the PGDM Program by Prof. Reji Meprathe
  • Examination and Evaluation by Dr. Suman Pathak
  • Current Affairs Awareness by Dr. S Manikandan and Professor A. Sakthivel
  • Art of Branding Oneself by Professor Reji Meprathe
  • Analytical Mindset Orientation by all the faculty members of MIME
  • Goal-Setting and Time Management by Professor Sanjiv Mathur
  • Linkedin Learning Platform by Ms. Sharel, a practicing expert on Linkedin Platform
  • Case Study Method by Dr. Arun B.K
  • Introduction to Mentor and Mentee Forum by Professor K M Ravi Kumar

 

Subject Related Orientation Through Bridge Courses

To familiarize the students from diverse backgrounds with the key subjects that constitute management education, subject-related orientation sessions were organized. The session included:

  • Accounting for Managers - Three sessions by Dr. Muralidharan, H
  • Quantitative Techniques for Managers - Two sessions by Dr. Sakthivel A
  • Economics for Managers - One session by Dr. Manikandan. S
 
August 14, 2021: Valedictory Session

The last day marked the culmination of the program with the valedictory presided over by Dr. Muralidharan H. He advised students to work towards their set goals by minimizing the conflicts within, as this ‘internal focused approach’ would enable them to work with more energy and enthusiasm. He urged the students to make the best use of the facilities provided by the institute. The session allowed students to share their feedback. Students, in general, appreciated the content and structure of the program and expressed their confidence in the institution. Professor Reji Meprathe conducted the valedictory session and concluded it with a formal vote of thanks.
