MATS Institute of Management and Entrepreneurship (MIME) organised a Guest Lecture on ‘Transformation in HR: Opportunity and Threats’ on 11th March 2023 for the students of Semester II PGDM 2022-2024 batch. The objective of the lecture was to blend the conceptual knowledge of Human Resource Management into real organisational HR practices and inform the students how this could contribute in an organisation’s growth. The guest lecture was conducted by Ms. Nimisha Kunnath Chatterjee, HR Business Partner at Clean Harbors India, coordinated by Dr. Suman Pathak and managed by Ms. Ananya Hedge of PGDM Ist Year.

Ms. Nimisha explained in detail about the various changes that have occurred in the human resource domain. She further clarified how these transformations are expected to create new opportunities or pose a threat to a career in the Human Resource field. According to her, some of the opportunities created by these transformations may include increased efficiency, better use of data analytics, and a focus on employee well-being and engagement. On the other hand, the threats may include job displacement due to automation and the need for new skill sets for HR professionals.

Students learned that as automation increases, some HR roles may be replaced by machines, resulting in job loss for some Human Resource professionals. With the advancement in technology, HR professionals will need to develop new skills in order to stay relevant and effective in their roles.

Overall, transformation in the field of Human Resource has significant impact on businesses and therefore on employees. It is important for organisations to carefully consider both the opportunities and threats associated with this transformation in order to effectively manage these changes and maximise their benefits while minimising potential risks.
